Apps for People with Visual Impairments

LookTel is about to release an award-winning app (the first in a planned series) for people with visual impairments and blindness.  Designed for use on iPods and iPhones, the Money Reader app:

Instantly recognizes US currency and speaks the denomination, enabling people with visual impairments or blindness to quickly and easily identify and count bills. Simply point your iPhone’s camera at any US bill and the application will tell you the denomination in real-time.

This is just the first in a planned series for people with visual impairments and blindness.  LookTel is also working on apps to identify objects and landmarks, create a personalized image database, provide remote sighted assistance and a text reader.
